Cate Bester, RM

I graduated from Laurentian University with a bilingual BHSc in Midwifery before starting my career at Community Midwives of Toronto. Since 2021, I have been very fortunate to be living and working in my beautiful home community with Midwives Grey Bruce. I am passionate about providing empowering, family-centred, and evidence-based care to all pregnant people and their families. This holistic approach is informed by my previous studies in Psychology and Gender and Women's Studies at Collège Glendon, York University. When not midwifing, I enjoy bike rides, lake swims, live music, and fiction. Je travail en français ainsi qu'en anglais.

I am thrilled to be practising midwifery in my home community. I was born and raised on the Bruce Peninsula and am deeply invested in serving the birthing families of our area. My love for all things birth extends back to my childhood and has been my lifelong passion. My philosophy is simple: to care for my clients, I must care about my clients. My job is to empower you to find clear information, support and direction surrounding your birth experience. I live in rural Grey county with my husband, surrounded by our 3 adult children, our beautiful grandchildren, and a collection of dogs and cats. l am so excited to meet you and to know you and your family.

Born and raised in Kincardine, Ontario, I later moved overseas to China, Albania, and Ukraine for my elementary to high school years. Eventually, I found my way back to Canada at McMaster University, where I obtained an Honours degree in Health Studies before completing the Midwifery Education Program. In 2018, I volunteered for two weeks at a public hospital in the Dominican Republic, witnessing the incredible strength of individuals in labor and birth. These experiences enlightened me to cross-cultural perspectives and fueled my dedication to providing holistic and compassionate care. Beyond midwifery, I strive to balance my love for food with physical activities such as hiking, running, and other sports. I'm excited to meet you and embark on this journey together, ensuring a positive experience for you and your family!

I was first introduced to midwifery at Laurentian University when the Midwifery Education Program was just beginning there. I was inspired to pursue midwifery as a career choice after the births of my own two sons under the care of fabulous midwives in British Columbia. I believe deeply in the midwifery model of informed choice and client-centred care, and enjoy the connections we build with our clients while supporting them through to parenthood. I grew up in Grey County and am very excited to be returning to the area to join the team at Midwives Grey Bruce! When I’m not on call, I enjoy outdoor pursuits such as camping, hiking and paddling, road trip adventures and spending time with family and friends.

I began my journey to midwifery in 2009 when I attended midwifery school in Maine, USA. Over the next few years I attended births in Maine and Arizona, and participated in a month long placement in Sri Lanka. After returning to Canada in 2015, I completed the bridging program and has been practicing in Ontario ever since! I gave birth to my daughter at home with the assistance of Grey Bruce Midwives. It was such an amazing experience and I continue to feel honoured to join in the journey of welcoming new little ones earth side. I am excited to be back in Grey Bruce and serve the community where I was born and raised!

I graduated from Laurentian University’s Midwifery Program in 2020, completing my final placement with Midwives Grey Bruce. Before becoming a midwife, I earned a B.A. in Psychology from Trent University and spent many years supporting adults with developmental disabilities. Through this work, I developed a strong passion for informed choice and individualized, client-centred care. My path to midwifery was inspired by the births of my three children and the compassionate care I received. I began my journey as a doula and childbirth educator, where my passion for supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and beyond continued to grow. I’m grateful to be part of this community and look forward to supporting you and your family as part of your circle of care!

My family is from Meaford so it has always been a goal of mine to practice midwifery in the Grey Bruce region. I was introduced to midwifery care shortly before the birth of my first child, and chose midwives for my subsequent two pregnancies. I am passionate about supporting families through the transformative journey of childbirth. There is nothing I want more than to ensure the values and choices of my clients are heard and respected. I graduated from the Midwifery Education Program at Laurentian University in 2022 where I completed placements in Collingwood and Owen Sound, and at Midwives Grey Bruce. I worked for a short time in Hamilton before returning to Midwives Grey Bruce in 2023. Outside of work I enjoy gardening, hiking and spending time with my family and friends.

I was born and raised on a dairy farm in Wyoming, Ontario.  I studied Drama and Women’s Studies at Queen’s University and then returned to Wyoming where I worked as a music teacher.  I birthed three babies at home and felt so empowered by the care I received from my midwives.  Eventually my little family moved to Toronto so that I could study Midwifery at Toronto Metropolitan.   I graduated in 2015 and started my career at Midwives Grey Bruce, worked in Sarnia for 8 years, and then returned to Owen Sound in 2024.  I deeply appreciate the beauty and the diversity of Grey Bruce and feel honoured to provide midwifery care to this community.

I was born and raised in Bracebridge, Muskoka. Prior to midwifery I studied Kinesiology and enjoyed varsity rowing and competitive dance. I trained to be a therapist and I had my own practice for nine years. I delivered my son with the supportive care of midwives and the experience was so empowering I felt inspired to help other women achieve positive birth experiences. I graduated from the Midwifery programme in 2008. I have worked with the Association of Ontario Midwives on developing clinical practice guidelines. I was the first Locum midwife in the province. I am passionate about midwifery and I look forward to meeting the women and families in this community.

On leave

I am thrilled to be working as a Midwife in my hometown! I first became interested in pursuing Midwifery during my years at York University where I graduated in Women and Gender Studies. Once I tired of the Toronto smog, I headed North to study Midwifery at Laurentian University and completed placements in Kenora, Barrie, and here in Grey and Bruce counties. My passion for midwifery comes from the respect for choice and normal pregnancy the profession offers the birthing community. When I’m not working, I enjoy swimming in Georgian Bay, hiking, snowshoeing, and sampling all the local cuisine our area offers. I look forward to meeting you!

On leave

I was born and raised near the small town of Listowel Ontario. I moved to Owen Sound to go to college and had the opportunity to be a nanny to three adorable children whose parents where a doctor and midwife. I developed a close relationship with the midwife and her passion for midwifery and healthcare that inspired me to become a midwife myself. While in the Midwifery Program at Ryerson University, I had learning opportunities in Owen Sound, Barrie, St. Jacobs, and the Northwest Territories. To me, midwifery is about providing safe, effective, and evidence-based care. I focus on the empowerment of women through childbirth and trust through meaningful clinician/client relationships. My goal is to support clients and their families on this incredible journey. When I’m not working you can find me hiking with my dog, travelling, knitting, spending time with friends and family and reading.
